This was delivered to the Captain's quarters early this morning:
The Captain is not given to outwards display of emotion. However, I don't mind telling you that my eyes filled with tears as I read that. I had awoken pretty despondent this morning and for a few brief moments, I thought about walking away from the whole thing. It's become an absolute nightmare in every respect. I am surrounded by some awesome people (the best I have ever had the pleasure of serving with) and although that note was sent to me, it really belongs to all of them. This has been a team effort. In some normal place and time, I would introduce you to them, but now is not that time.
I do not know the man who sent the message except for a couple of brief exchanges on Twitter but we are having a beer together when he returns from his deployment. This little campaign against the #ScoobyGang started out as a lot of fun but over the past couple of weeks, it has turned uglier than I would have ever imagined. There has been a constant stream of threats, accusations, attempted doxxings, and bullying directed at myself, the people around me, and so many people that I respect.
I have been accused of dishonoring a veteran and a dead hero. (The truth is I did nothing of the kind. Louise lies about everything, remember?) I have been called a Russian spy. I have been threatened with legal action and bodily harm. My account has been attacked, people have attempted to gain my trust under false pretenses, there was even a failed attempt to doxx me. (Amazingly, it was the same genius who went after Mike Farb and screwed that up too. How about those Buckeyes, Kenny?) I have seen two prominent members of the Resistance driven off of Twitter by threats. Every day, more and more people tell me of being threatened and intimidated.
I think what angers me most of all is that so many people are standing by passively watching this all go down. Is this really the way you want things to be? Many people don't realize what is happening and that's the reason I have created this blog as a platform to share what I know in the hope that once people do know the facts, they will do the right thing.
I really do believe that. Hey, I'm a liberal and we believe that all people are capable of greatness. We are not going to give up and we will not be intimidated by Ms Mensch and her minions. We are Americans and we threw the British Empire out of this country to gain our independence. One half-mad low-rent UK Sarah Palin is not that much for us to handle. There's a deployed sailor I know who expects us to have this mess cleaned up before he gets home. I don't want to let him down. Do you?
I'll be back tomorrow with a lot less sentimentality and more of the usual snark.
